A New Chef at Tene Kitchen and Bar

The magnificent new rooftop at Tene Kitchen and Bar has a drop dead view of SMA; one of the best in the city. At Tene, you can go from breakfast to comida, then cocktails and dinner all in the same day. We booked an event on the rooftop recently to celebrate Claudia Bo’s 50th birthday. We know after the experience that in busy season, this stunning rooftop will sell out almost every night. There’s also a comfortable seating area for the cocktail hour and your guaranteed a beautiful breakfast downstairs in the morning at their bakery, Dulce 1810, including the classic Eggs Benedict.
Chef Erick Martintz De La Cruz is originally from the State of Mexico. He studied gastronomy at the Coronado Culinary Institute, in Tlalnepantla, Edo. After finishing his degree, he did an internship at Chef Alfonso Cadena's La Leche restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. He left the position of Sous Chef at the age of 22 and by 24, he was already Executive Chef in charge of the restaurant. After 5 years, he made the decision to move to San Miguel de Allende to expand his culinary knowledge and started working at Trazo 1810. After a year and a half, he worked at the Rosewood and later took a job at Selina Rooftop as a Sous Chef, in charge of the kitchen where he worked for well-known super chef, Abel Hernández, for two years. He then moved to Todos Santos in Baja to work as a Chef at the Guaycura Boutique Hotel. He’s now back in SMA in charge of Casa 1810 Collection which includes both Trazo 1810 and Tene Kitchen and Bar.
The chef was a principal success at the San Miguel y Sus Sabores food festival this past week, selling over 600 Angus hamburgers. In fact, every dish he cooked at the show was first rate, including the Ribs and Barbacoa.
We can say without a doubt that nothing with this chef is ever ordinary. He’s one of our favorite young chefs in SMA so look for more good things to come from his kitchen this year. He’s always got a few surprises up his sleeve and that’s just one of the many things we love about him. You can’t ever guess what’s coming next.
