El Pato

I first went to El Pato back in 2013 when I came to SMA and it was love at first bite. Mixiotes is a little bundle of lamb that is cooked in a rich broth under the ground overnight and just like my mother's pot roast, it's true comfort food. The process of cooking Jose Luis's family recipe, unchanged for generations, took 12 hours. It was the only version of Mixiotes in the city and one of the best food offerings in SMA. We also loved the owners, Jose Luis and Pilar, and rallied hard to get them to the #1 spot on Trip Advisor and finally did in early 2018. It’s extremely sad to report that El Pato is closing and moving to QuerĂ©taro. They will be open 2 more weekends. How does SMA lose one of the best foods in its culinary profile after 30 years in business? It’s going to take awhile to wrap my head around this loss.
