There’s nothing like a big, cheese-laden hamburger to convince you that, even in 90 degree heat, a burger tastes pretty darn good.
Just ask Sandy Sims, who eagerly took his in both hands and dug right in with unadulterated enthusiasm. After all, that’s what you do on Burger night.
Some say that a burger is just a burger and maybe it is
when you’re eating the $80 peso variety. We know the quality of the meat at The
Restaurant is some of the best there is: organic, grass-fed Canada de La Virgen
beef. The burgers are the closest thing to
textbook you can get - made by blending cuts of sirloin, brisket and chuck. These
French fries were the Birdie’s variety – truffle with Parmesan cheese and a hit
for the entire table.
I like the thin-patty, double cheeseburger - you know, the old dive bar burgers grown up and served at The Restaurant with the addition of a white tablecloth - a combination that’s pretty hard to beat.
The burgers are all around $280
pesos; a really good buy, especially since burgers in SMA range in price from
$80 pesos to $795 pesos. We’ve tasted them all and this one happens to be one
of the best there is and one of the better buys for your money.
To say Chef Donnie Masterton is the
King of Burgers in SMA, well that’s just a given. He’s done it every Thursday
night for 15 years; 734 nights of practice. And in this case, practice does make
perfect!
Stay tuned: Birdies Burgers is also reopening soon at Salida a Celaya #6.
