Andy’s Tacos Hidalgo and Insurgentes

Andy’s is a magnet for taco aficionados who jockey for one of the few seats at his taco cart each night for a plate of savory Tacos Al Pastor.

The pork is marinated in dried chilies and spices, then slow-cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Get the works: covered in his spicy, red chipotle salsa and thin slices of cooked pineapple. We need our weekly fix so you’ll find us here when he opens around 7:00 PM. It’s a great time to watch him caramelize the pork to the stage of almost-burnt perfection. When was the last time you had a meal this good for a few bucks? The ultimate of cheap eats in SMA, they’re a bargain at 14 pesos each - a plate of 3 for $42 pesos/ $2.10 USD.

On his day off, we talked Andy into sitting for SMA photographer, Gunther Maier, for his portfolio of SMA Chefs. Andy was the only street chef in the collection and a total show-off in front of the camera. Andy has also been featured in the Wall Street Journal.
